Grass and Whole Crop

When we set out to make another film on grass and whole crop, we started off
wondering in what Country or direction we would go and decided to stay in
Ireland, in what turned out to be a great year for weather and we were able to
feature some of the new machines that were just out that season.

We visited the Young farm near Hillsborough in Co. Down, where into the field
came Brian Horner a local Agri-Contractor from North Co Down. Brian was drivingthe very first Krone 1100 self-propelled harvester to come into Ireland and
following him was a big team of John Deere tractors, drawing lovely Herron
trailers. It took all they had to keep up with Brian with his mighty machine.

Further south, we visited Athy in Co Kilkenny, where we stopped at the farm of
Roger Perry who works with nothing only New Holland and filmed them at work at
the Silage with a New Harvester and a new shovel along with many other new
implements as well. They’re a good team of men and they did a good tidy job.

At the Country Crest farm near to Lusk in Co. Dublin, they had just opened their
new Beef Unit and were preparing to put in the grass in their new state of the
art grass sheds.

We watched them use all the top tractors in their fleet, along
with a J F Trail Harvester and the latest tedding and rowing machines.
When the Whole Crop season began, we moved to a farm near Attical in Co. Down in
the heart of the Mourne Mountains, where we saw for the first time in all our
travels a Reversible Fendt 936 tractor belonging to a Kilkeel based Agri-
contractor.

We filmed this extraordinary machine going backwards up the steep
hilly slopes to lift the Whole Crop and put it in to the Redrock trailers.
David, the owner, is a keen Fendt collector has seven Fendt tractors at his
disposal.

Last of all, we called with John Dan O’Hare’s men, who were near their home in
Annaclone putting in the last Whole Crop for the winter as they cut it in the
dark, to get finished
